New Zealand accepts IELTS One Skill Retake for visas

Immigration New Zealand has approved IELTS One Skill Retake as an accepted English language test for people looking to study, work or migrate to New Zealand.

The IELTS  One Skill Retake was launched last year and enables test takers to retest one of the four skills (listening, reading, writing or speaking) within 60 days, if they did not achieve the score desired in one section of the test on the first attempt.

In a letter to immigration staff in late December, Immigration New Zealand said that it was aligning with the UK Visa and Immigration and the Australian Department of Home Affairs in accepting the IELTS One Skill Retake test.

It clarified that the date of the original test date, and not the retake, is to be used in cases where a test needed to be taken within a certain period.

In a statement, IELTS – which is co-owned by the British Council IDP Education  and Cambridge University Press & Assessment English  – said, “IELTS One Skill Retake is designed to give IELTS test takers a second opportunity to achieve the score they need for their study, migration, and work goals if they feel their original performance was not representative of their language proficiency.”

IELTS One Skill Retake is available at selected IELTS tests centres in more than 110 countries, the testing organisation said.
